Studio Policy*

Studio Admission:

Pedal Point Piano Studio welcomes anyone age 6 and older who would like to further their skills on the piano.  While most lessons will be paid for in monthly or semester-long installments, the first two lessons are offered a-la-carte.  This will allow the student and instructor an opportunity to meet and make sure the arrangement is a good fit without requiring an up-front commitment to a large block of lessons.  Initial inquiries and scheduling of these lessons will be conducted via email and/or phone.

Location:

Lessons are conducted at Pedal Point Piano Studio’s physical location in Seven Lakes, North Carolina, or virtually via a video-call software.  Directions and instructions for arrival or log-in will be provided as the initial lessons are scheduled.

Tuition:

After the first two a-la-carte introductory lessons, tuition is to be paid in either four monthly installments or at a reduced rate for the entire semester.  While some months may have more or fewer lessons than others, each student will have the opportunity to take at least 14 lessons over the course of the semester.

The Spring 2026 semester will run from January 12th – May 9th, with rates as follows:

  • 30-minute lessons:  $140/month, or $520/semester
  • 45-minute lessons:  $175/month, or $660/semester
  • 60-minute lessons:  $210/month, or $800/semester

Tuition is non-refundable and is to be paid by the first lesson of the month or semester via cash, check, or Venmo.  Semester payments receive a $40 discount versus monthly payments.  The first two introductory lessons are 30 minutes long and are offered at a discounted rate of $30/lesson.

Additionally, a Family Discount of $10/month or $40/semester per student will be offered when two or more students are enrolled from the same immediate family.

Tuition includes lessons, books and other materials, and the end-of-semester recital.

Scheduling:

Lessons will be individually scheduled for a time slot mutually agreed upon by student and instructor, and that slot will belong to the student for the duration of the semester.  Exceptions may include holidays and vacation days predetermined by the instructor in the semester calendar.  Make-up lessons will be provided if these days result in less than 14 lesson opportunities for a student in the semester.

Lesson Cancellations:

If the student needs to cancel a lesson and gives at least 24 hours notice, every effort will be made to schedule a make-up, either the same week or another week before the end of the semester.  However, if the student cancels a lesson with less than 24 hours of notice, a make-up lesson is not guaranteed.  A maximum of 2 make-up lessons will be provided per student, per semester.

If the instructor needs to cancel a lesson, a make-up lesson will be provided – this lesson will not count towards the student’s allotted 2 make-ups for the semester.  If it is not possible to schedule a make-up lesson in this circumstance, the student will be refunded the prorated amount for the lesson.

Required Home Equipment:

It is highly recommended that every student have an acoustic piano or a full keyboard with weighted keys on which to practice at home.  If it is not possible for a student to acquire such an instrument, the student should discuss this with the instructor, and the instructor will work with the student to help find a suitable practice situation.

Practice Expectations:

Regular practice is essential to making improvement in any skill, including learning the piano.  It is expected that all students make an effort to complete all assigned exercises each week and work toward steady improvement between lessons.  While everyone’s practice needs are different, a good rule of thumb is to practice every day for at least as long as the duration of the weekly lesson.  For example, someone taking a 30 minute lesson each week should practice for at least 30 minutes per day.  It is important to note that practice needs for younger children will vary greatly, and progress is typically strongly enhanced by parental involvement and supervision.

Other Studio Opportunities:

There will be a studio recital at the end of each semester in which all students are strongly encouraged to participate.  This serves to hone their performance skills and allows them to share the progress they have made over the course of the semester. More information about the end-of-semester recital and additional learning and performance opportunities will be shared as they become available.

Termination of Lessons:

The instructor reserves the right to discontinue lessons with a student at any time.
